●       Antique carpets: Due to their historical value and unique construction, antiques are often not subjected to the same flammability tests.

During the test, eight 9 x 9-inch carpet or rug samples are placed on a steel plate with a circular hole. An ignition source is positioned beneath the hole. If at least seven of the eight samples exhibit a charred area that does not extend within 1 inch of the hole's edge, the carpet or rug passes the test, indicating it meets the necessary safety criteria.

 

To indicate compliance with fire safety standards, carpets, and rugs that meet certain conditions must be labeled accordingly:

 

●       "T" Label: This label signifies that the product has undergone fire-retardant treatment or is made from fibers that have received fire-retardant treatment.
